Lying further north along the coast, between Ajman and Ras Al Khaimah, is the
emirate of Umm Al Quwain. The town is based around a large lagoon or creek and
has a long seafaring tradition of pearling and fishing. The emirate’s six forts
and a few old watchtowers still stand proudly around the town.
However, the lagoon, with its mangroves and birdlife, is a popular weekend spot
for boat trips. Dreamland Aqua Park, UAQ Flying Club, UAQ Shooting Club and the
opportunity to try karting and paintballing make this the ‘activity centre’ of
the northern emirates. With more resorts and facilities planned, this area can
only get better!
